According to the Foreclosure Support website, a 9,000 home project backed by DE Shaw in Florida has fallen victim to foreclosure proceedings. DE Shaw is SunCal’s sole-source financial partner for their Alameda Point project. According to the article , DE Shaw backed the Metro Development Group’s acquisition of thousands of parcels of land in the Tampa Bay area from struggling homebuilder Lennar and developer M/I Homes. Now, 9,000 of those sites are in foreclosures procedures and court-appointed receivership.

Regular readers of this blog know that I live in Phoenix and have tried from time to time to portray the devastation that the recession has wreaked on this city. An article today on Bloomberg does as good a job and probably better than I have in numerous posts of conveying the chaos. It isn’t a bad idea unless you can rent your current place out and cash flow it until the right time to sell.  If you waited to sell you would get more for your current home but most likely would also pay more money for the new home. The American economy is on a downswing. Many regions in the US are riddled with foreclosed homes. Some of these homes are in a state of disrepair. Their values have plunged. The Marshals Service is revamping some of these homes and helping generate interest about these properties. A case in point is the home of fraudster Bernard Madoff in Palm Beach, Florida . The Service is trying to revamp the sprawling property. Sally Schowalter, an employee of the service, says that her job involves refurbishing the Madoff home and getting the best deal for the property.

The top states for foreclosure figures last year in 2008 were Nevada, Florida, California, Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana and Colorado, in that order. As we can see from this list Arizona is number four on the list, and one of the counties in Arizona encountering high foreclosure rates is Gilbert. Gilbert foreclosure homes have been increasing exponentially and now there are a huge amount of these properties available to any willing property buyers.

Domain registrar and hosting provider GoDaddy released some statistics that indicate a surge in the registration of domains named after street addresses. Comparing 2005 (the year the housing bubble burst) to last year, Go Daddy recorded a more than 320 percent increase in “home address” domain name registrations.

If you’ve been reading this lousy blog long enough… I apologize. Really. For everything. But in the time you’ve subjected yourself to this horrible place, you might have noticed that I don’t have much use for the national media, at least when it comes to Navy sports. I don’t watch Sportscenter, rarely catch more than the last 15 minutes or so of Gameday before the noon games start, and read next to nothing from the sports page of most national newspapers, save for the occasional column.

I posted the below excerpt on my other blog Florida Homes for Sale yesterday about a most timely topic – short sales .  I stated….. “I guess the more appropriate question is…do banks care if that short sale offer goes through to closing? In a declining market prices decline….don’t te ll the banks! They still think Washington will provide a golden egg!”  Banks must not care about making money because they delay decisions on short sales until the selling price in the neighborhoods are lower than the offer they are supposed to be considering.
